Pack Your Bags and Move to Cape Cod

Pack Your Bags and Move to Cape Cod

Moving can be, in a word, intense. There are so many factors to consider (Should you get your old house professionally cleaned? How many boxes will you need? Should you rent a truck or borrow your cousin Jeff’s trailer?) — and not all of them are easily controlled.

But when you’re moving to the right place, the hassle is always worth it.

You’ll forget how much it sucks to find the correct shade of touch-up paint for your old walls. You won’t live in a cardboard-and-packing-tape jungle forever. And yes, if you call Jeff, you’ll have to listen to him narrate his last duck hunt scene by scene for an hour. But he’s a good guy with a good heart, and you know he’ll lend you the trailer.

And when it’s all over? You get to live in a house you love, in a neighborhood you adore, in a town that feels like home.

That’s the dream. And as a realtor here on Cape Cod, I see it come true for my clients all the time.

There are so many reasons to pack up your belongings and move to the Cape. We have all the amenities of a bigger area, without compromising our beach town charm. As I always say, the pilgrims landed here first for a reason. They knew what was up.

If you’re a beach person, you can’t do better than Cape Cod. Living here means you can visit the ocean every day, year-round. It’s not always sunshiny and warm, but I’ll let you in on the big secret: it doesn’t have to be. The beach is stunning in the winter. It’s also highly underrated, so you won’t have to share it with tourists.

Similarly, if you’re a golfer, you’re in for a good time. Around here, we play ten months out of the year, if not all 12. It really depends on snowfall. In the last few years, we’ve only had one storm that required shoveling — so you better believe we’re on the green week after week.

Convenience-wise, Cape Cod is packed with locally owned mom-and-pop shops, restaurants, and other businesses. Dollars spent here, stay here, which is a beautiful thing to see. Not all beach towns thrive the way ours do, you know? We don’t take it for granted. We’re also just a quick ferry or flight away from Nantucket Island and Martha’s Vineyard.

Still, if you crave the occasional day in the city, we’re only 80 miles from Boston and Providence. They have all your nightlife, gourmet dining, and concert needs covered, and you can retreat to your seaside heaven when you’ve had enough.

And speaking of heaven, let’s talk property taxes. (What?!) I know, but bear with me. Cape Cod has some impressively low property taxes, i.e., in the town of Dennis, we have a tax rate of $4.39/$1000. That means a one-million-dollar assessment would be just $4,390 a year. Incredible, right?

Especially since the Cape is packed with historical significance. It’s home to the Kennedy Compound, the Marconi Wireless Station, Route 6A, and The Cape Playhouse. If you’re a history buff like me, you’ll love living here.

Or, if movies are more your thing, we have you covered there, too. Jaws was famously filmed on Martha’s Vineyard (again, just seven miles off the coast), and the island now allows fans to jump off Jaws Bridge.

Cape Cod is also the place to be if you enjoy whale watching, homemade ice cream, and/or visiting lighthouses. We have each of these things in spades, plus all the lobster rolls you can eat (because *sustenance*).

And the #1 reason I think you should move here? The people. Period.

There’s a sense of community on the Cape that you just don’t get in most places. Sure, we bond over our love for the sea, but more than that, we take care of each other.

So, pack your bags, your boxes, your pets, and your plants. Call the movers (or Jeff) and come on over to Cape Cod. We can’t wait to meet you.
