One of the coolest things about living on the Cape is the historical significance of our surroundings. On any given day, we can visit the Winslow Crocker House, walk along the Captain’s Mile, and contemplate the Pilgrim Monument. Our historic lighthouses are stunning, and our museums are the stuff of legends.
But that’s the type of cool you can see with your eyes and feel in your soul. At times, we’re just trying to beat the heat—and nothing accomplishes that mission quite like ice cream.
Of course, on Cape Cod, even our ice cream shops have a history. One of my favorites is Four Seas Ice Cream, which has been churning up homemade goodness since 1934. Before that, it was a blacksmith shop. (A natural progression, don’t you think?)
Four Seas makes a delicious old-fashioned sundae and frappe (“milkshake” for the out-of-towners). Their penuche pecan ice cream is culinary perfection. And it’s no wonder why. The team uses fresh ingredients in each of their flavors, including local fruits. It’s so easy to resort to factory-made bases and mixes, but that’s not how you’re named one of the top ten ice cream shops in the country—something Four Seas has done multiple times.
(For context, there are over 24,000 ice cream shops in the United States. That’s a lot of zeros to surpass. Homemade makes all the difference.)
Another thing I love about the Four Seas team is their customer service. Not only do they offer delivery options, but they also create specialty flavors for other local businesses, including caterers, clubs, and restaurants. They understand what it means to support our community, and they follow through on that promise.
I could go on and on about the particular magic of Cape Cod dessert, but here’s the bottom line: No one paid me to write this. No one had to. Whether you’re interested in the history of the building or not, Four Seas Ice Cream is my #1 recommendation for a refreshing treat.
Unlike the folks at Four Seas, I’m not an ice cream expert, but I am a local realtor who is passionate about supporting the Cape Cod community. If anyone from Four Seas is reading this, let’s chat. Maybe I can trade you marketing for penuche pecan.
